Microsoft India today officially released its Office 2016 application suite for Windows with a focus on cloud and cross-platform compatibility. The new applications are the latest addition to Microsoft’s cloud-based subscription service ‘Office 365’ to further boost the productivity.
The applications include Tell Me app, which helps you find the right Office feature or command. Another nifty addition is the Smart Lookup that brings insights from the web right into the documents you are working upon. Office 365 Planner allows you to create new plans, organise and assign tasks, set due dates and update status. Office 365 Groups are now an integrated part of the Outlook 2016 client app and will be available on mobile devices through the Outlook Groups app.
Microsoft has largely emphasised on teamwork and collaboration and has added some good features to its applications. Word, PowerPoint and OneNote now feature real-time co-authoring of a document that allows multiple users to see and edit the similar document in real-time. A “Share” button is added that allows the creator of a document to invite other users to collaborate on it.
Skype in-app integration across the applications enables users to talk, screen share, video chat and IM directly from the documents. Outlook 2016 will now feature ‘quick search’ that automatically moves low priority mails to a different folder to make things easy for you. Excel 2016 now includes integrated publishing to Power BI and new modern chart-types to help you make the most of your data.
The company has also focused on security and the built-in Data Loss Prevention across Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, significantly reduces the risk of leaking sensitive data with tools for IT administrators to manage content authoring and document sharing policies.
